FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Do you have any questions?
Here are our answers to some of the frequently asked questions that we often receive from customers. If we don’t have the answer then please submit your question using the form at the foot of the page.
Due to semi-retirement we no longer have our shop and workshop, therefore we no longer have the facilities to carry out television repairs.
Yes, we do still offer an installation and set-up service in customer’s homes.
Please phone or email us to make an appointment.
Sadly, if you are unlucky enough to have experienced a mishap with your television and broken the screen then unfortunately in almost every case a repair is not viable. Even if a replacement screen is available from the manufacturer the cost is usually prohibitive.
Although the outer layer of the screen is intact if your picture resembles this photo then the LCD panel has been irretrievably damaged.
We advise you to check to see if you are insured for accidental damage, either through your house contents insurance or an extended warranty.
When contacting us to arrange a service call it would be helpful if you have the make and model number of the equipment to hand, this can usually be found on a label on the rear or the side of the equipment. Failing that, the make, screen size (measured diagonally) and the approximate age would be helpful.
When calling out to repair wall mounted flat panel televisions, we will normally only remove the equipment from the wall bracket providing the distance between the base of the set and the floor is not excessive. This applies to both under warranty, insurance and chargeable repairs. Special arrangements may be made to handle equipment in higher locations, but at an additional cost. Alternatively you may wish to arrange removal of the set from the wall bracket onto a suitable stand before we call.
No, many years ago we used to. However, as technology has become more complex, in line with many similar companies, we now charge an initial deposit, which is deducted from the final repair bill, in the likely event that a repair is completed.
We feel that it is only fair, that as professionals, we should be recompensed for our time and expertise. Please bear in mind that as well as our time in dismantling your equipment and diagnosing the fault, we have many overheads that have to be paid for.
We find that by far the vast majority of customers feel that this is only fair.
We don’t undertake repairs to vintage equipment ourselves.
However, we may well know an engineer than can, so feel free to email or phone us with details of the equipment you have, and we will be pleased to pass on your details.
In the majority of cases it is not possible for us to offer an accurate diagnosis over the telephone without seeing the set. Even if it is a piece of equipment that we are especially familiar with, appearances can be deceptive. A particular symptom can often be caused by a number of possible different faulty components.
So if you wish to know exactly what the problem is with your set please allow us the time to take the equipment apart and diagnose what the fault is, which can often take quite some time.
We have instructions on our Catch-Up TV page on how to register and sign-in to the most popular services, including BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, All 4, My 5, Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.
